Variety Exploratory Trip - Virtually Unpopulated, Fast-Water Mountain Rivers

The Guyana Shield forms the northern border of the mighty Amazon basin. Wild rivers draining from this extensive mountainous region, are protected from exploitation by major waterfalls, limiting easy access to air charter only. These systems contain highly variable environments and many are full of big fish. In 1997, Acute Angling first ventured into this region to make a preliminary fishery assessment. We were wowed by its variety, productivity and the size of its fish. We knew we had to come back to look further and perform a thorough exploration of the vast region. We've since explored endless miles of pristine rivers and we've already caught enormous payara, pirapitinga, trairao, bicuda, suribim, giant catfish, peacock bass and more here. We've set IGFA world records for several species! Now we're inviting anglers to help us discover what else this vast region holds. If adventure and exploration are among your ideas of what makes a good fishing trip, then this one is for you. Warning - Exploratory trips are not for everyone. They can include basic accommodations and simple meals, untrained support staff, and unpredictable itineraries.

Exploratory trip acommodations vary, depending on where we're going. We'll use the most appropriate mechanism to get us to the fish in the region we're exploring. Sometimes we have access to land-based resources such as simple pousadas. Sometimes we can navigate a comfortable air-conditioned boat into the region, and sometimes, the only way to get at the fish is by placing a safari-style camp smack-dab in the middle of the fishery.

Acute Angling's safari-style camps use our proven technique of total immersion in the fishery. Nothing fancy; basic tents, riverbank camping and barbecued fish. We'll carry our camp with us as we wend our way through the descending river's changing environments. With this simplicity comes mobility and extreme flexibility. Sample Itinerary - Variety Species "Exploratory" Trips

Day 1

Depart Miami or Atlanta via International flight to Manaus Brazil, After clearing customs you are met by our agent and transferred from the domestic airport to your hotel or next flight.

Day 2

Board a charter flight to the fishery. Arrive at the fishery mid-morning.

Day 3 through Day 7

Six full days of fishing. Your angling day begins with a 5:30 AM wake up call. Breakfast is at 6:00 AM. Your guide is ready to depart at first light, although you can remain in camp at your leisure. Relax for an hour at lunchtime each day. Return to camp before dusk for appetizers, drinks and a session of comparing notes and results, followed by a delicious dinner. Jungle hikes, spotlighting trips, catfishing and, sometimes, local village visits can be arranged.

Day 8

Board charter and return to Manaus. Enjoy a day of sightseeing or relaxing by the pool at the Tropical hotel. Transfer to the airport the next morning to board your international return flight.
